(New!) Center for Creativity: Art & Data

Program: Healthy U
Presenter: Center for Creativity
Workshop Type: In-person
Date: 6/10/2026
Time: 12:00PM - 1:00PM
Location Name: The Understory, Basement, B50 Cathedral of Learning
Location Address: 4200 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15260
Who Should Attend: All faculty and staff

What happens when numbers meet imagination? Join us for an interactive workshop designed for anyone curious about creativity, storytelling, and seeing data in a new way. Explore the connection between art and the creative side of visualizing data. Discover inspiring examples of data art, learn about local data resources, and experiment with your own artistic interpretations of data. Data is everywhere, but it’s not always easy to understand (especially when the slides move too fast and the numbers are tiny). We’ll slow things down and rethink the ways that data can be shared, felt, and understood. You’ll build new connections and the confidence to delve into datasets on your own. We won’t use computers in this workshop, and there are no prerequisite skills or experiences. We encourage you to join even (or especially!) if you feel like you shouldn’t because you aren’t a “data” person.

Translating approximately to "silk painting" or "fabric painting," kinusaiga is a no-sew fabric art that uses simple tools and relaxing, hands-on techniques to create vibrant mosaic images. Join us for this beginner-friendly session and learn the basics of a modern take on kinusaiga while crafting your own artwork to take home. Looking to de-stress or enjoy a creative break from your routine? This workshop offers a warm, welcoming space to connect and create. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring along some favorite fabric scraps if you like, and enjoy the flow of fabric, color, and imagination.
